UV Filters

UV Filters

Sunscreens, sunblocks, chemicals and minerals... the list of things to consider when purchasing an SPF goes on and on. But never fear, we're here to help you understand everything there is to know about sun care, so you can walk down the aisles of products like an educated upper class, knowing exactly what to look for and exactly what it all means. Here is your ultimate guide to UV filters.

What are UV Filters?

UV filters a.k.a ultraviolet filters are chemicals that absorb or block UV radiation. Also known as SPF filters or sun filters, they are added to sunscreens, sunblocks and products to give them their Sun Protection Factor (SPF). Whilst most only protect you for certain parts of the UVB spectrum, some UV filters offer protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

The UV filters listed in our guide are the 33 active ingredients approved as sunscreens in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
